In the Week 4 Thursday Night Football clash, the Detroit Lions (2-1) are set to travel to Green Bay to face off against the Packers (2-1). Both teams are entering this contest fresh off bounce-back victories, setting the stage for what oddsmakers expect to be a closely contested matchup. Green Bay briefly opened as a one-point favorite, but by Monday night, the Lions were a two-point favorite, and the total is 45.
Last season, the Lions won both head-to-head meetings. The first Lions victory occurred 15-9 on November 6 in Detroit. The teams met again on January 8 in the regular season finale, with the Lions winning 37-30 and preventing the Packers from reaching the playoffs.
Jared Goff, the Lions’ quarterback, has been the driving force behind their offense, with five touchdowns to two interceptions. Goff is also fourth in the NFL with a 71.2 QBR and fifth with 819 passing yards.
Armon-Ra St. Brown leads the team with 275 receiving yards. Overall, the Lions are fourth in the NFL, averaging 8.0 yards per pass attempt, but only 25th, averaging 3.6 yards per rush. The Lions offense will be facing a Packers defense that is 11th, allowing only 5.8 yards per pass attempt. The Green Bay rushing defense is 18th, allowing 4.3 yards per carry.
The Green Bay Packers are led by quarterback Jordan Love, who has the keys this offense after legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers decided to move on to New York. Love has thrown for 655 yards, ranking eighth with a 69.5 QBR, and has seven touchdowns and only one interception.
The Packers are 15th, averaging 6.8 yards per pass attempt, and the rushing attack is 26th, averaging 3.4 yards per attempt. The Lions’ defense is fourth in the NFL, allowing only 3.2 yards per rush attempt and 8.0 yards per pass attempt.

The Verdict: I have to side with the Lions on Thursday night. Detroit has won the last three head-to-head games against the Packers, and I expect that to continue. Overall, Detroit has been more consistent defensively and explosively offensively this season.
Detroit is also 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 NFC North games. The Lions have also covered the number in five straight games against teams with a winning record.
