With the four playoff teams set for the college football semifinals, futures odds for the four teams have opened, and the Alabama Crimson Tide are favored to win at 185 odds despite being the fourth-ranked team. Following close behind are the #1 ranked Michigan Wolverines at 200 odds, the Texas Longhorns at 275, and the Washington Huskies way back at 560.
Since the inception of the four team college football playoff committee in 2014, this marks just the second time that Alabama goes into the playoffs ranked as the #4 team in the nation. The last time they were ranked fourth came in the 2017-18 season where they went on to win the National Championship where they were also favored to win going into the four-team pool but at 150 odds.
Despite Alabama being favored to win the National Championship, they are a slight 1.5-point underdog against Michigan in the Semifinal in the Rose Bowl. Many could argue that even in an underdog situation, Alabama has proven more that they could move on past Michigan in this one with four wins against top-20 ranked opponents including a win over the number one ranked team in the country at the time, Georgia, in the SEC Championship game.
Other odds that suggest they’ll come out with the title include the odds on the exact result and each teams odds to not win the National Championship. Behind only an exact result of Michigan beating Texas, Alabama defeating Texas has 425.
In each team’s individual playoff odds, Alabama has the shortest odds of not winning at -250 with Michigan at -275, Texas at -400, and Washington at -1100.
Of all four teams, Alabama also leads in terms of points scored per game this season at 38 ppg. In yards per game, Texas leads putting up north of 475 yards per contest. Looking on defense, Michigan held their opponents to just 9.5 ppg while Alabama held theirs to under three touchdowns.
Right now is the time to get in on these odds being that the semifinals are still around one month out and the odds are sure to shift forward until then with injury and scouting reports still expected to come out. All in all, on paper, despite their early season struggles, Alabama is favored for a reason and even in the favored position should still be bet on.
