Despite winning the NBA title just two seasons and less than two calendar years ago in 2022, the future doesn’t look too bright for the Golden State Warriors. Over the last decade, the Dubs have established themselves as the newest dynasty in the NBA, with nearly 10 straight years of peak performance and on-court success.
With four championships under their belt in the Stephen Curry era, they’ve already cemented their place among the most dominant teams in league history.
And yet, it’s bleak for Golden State when looking a few years into the future. Klay Thompson is 33 years old, has endured several serious injuries, and has visibly declined from his prime quickly over the past couple of seasons.
Draymond Green is the same age and has remained perhaps the most durable member of the Warriors Big Three, but he isn’t immortal either. His outside shooting has never recovered to his mid-2020s form and likely never will.
But despite Klay and Dray showing their age on the court, it’s Curry’s boundless youthfulness that brings the most sadness to the Warriors fanbase. The oldest member of Golden State’s core, Steph has yet to show any signs of slowing down and had arguably one of the best seasons of his career in 2022-2023.

Coming off of a long title run and returning to a depleted supporting cast, Curry willed his team to 56 wins and a seventh-place finish by running through the Play-In Tournament.
He’s obviously still in his prime and more than capable of spearheading a contender. Unfortunately, the rest of the roster doesn’t match his ceiling, and the franchise has little room for improvement.
The core around him is rapidly aging, and their two timelines strategy has failed miserably. Not a single prospect on the Warriors has proven himself to be a capable cornerstone for the next era, nor have they been able to reliably contribute to winning during Curry’s remaining prime years.
That is, besides Jordan Poole who was shipped off to the Washington Wizards after he was punched in the face by Green and deeply regressed in his fourth year.
Top Matchups
James Wiseman was already sacrificed in a trade for scraps. Moses Moody’s trade value right now might be even lower than Wiseman’s at the time of that deal. Jonathan Kuminga is the only one who has shown any signs of life, and he’s far from a guaranteed starter down the road, let alone a potential star.
With a supporting cast comprised entirely of quickly aging and overpaid veterans and disappointing projects, and little means to improve, this upcoming season could very well be Steph Curry’s last chance to win another ring with the Golden State Warriors.
